The travelling retrospective exhibition of German photographer Wolfgang Tillmans’s work that stopped in Toronto brought together some three hundred images covering thirty-six years of his practice. The eclectic grouping, which Jill Glessing calls “electric” in her essay, was offered as both an album of memories and “an invitation to look around us, unflinchingly, at the real world that we inhabit.” The exhibition also gave a good glimpse of Tillmans’s thematic, stylistic, and museographic innovations.
