“The alluring photographic scenes offer respite from the monotony of the soaked concrete, but they also raise questions about the construction, manipulation, and veracity of images that circulate in public spaces,” Didier Morelli writes about Michelle Bui’s works, which he discovered during a walk in on Vancouver streets. For the Capture Photography Festival, Bui, a Montreal artist, displayed two series created for the site and the context. Bui’s images, some of them pictorial abstractions and plays on landscapes, others figurative and descriptive compositions, testify, in Morelli’s view, to “her ability to stage a variety of situations in which numerous senses are titillated and engaged around the theme of representation and advertising.”
